Diversity and Inclusion Part 1
Overview
This short course empowers participants to embed the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging into their work practise – and life – to grow participation in physical activity; and create safe, welcoming, and inclusive sporting and recreational environments for all peoples.

Who should do this Course?
This course is designed for early to mid-entry level sport development professionals and Local Government Area (LGA) Officers, Senior Officers, and Team Leaders.
Course Outline
Week 1 – The Bigger Picture
This session sets forth the case for diversity and inclusion, and provides key information on demographic data, physical activity data, and key diversity and inclusion concepts.
Week 2 – Using Diversity and Inclusion to grow participation – A framework
This session sets forth a framework for using diversity and inclusion to grow physical activity participation. It is the translation of key concepts into a usable framework to inform sport and physical activity development.
Week 3 – Using Diversity and Inclusion to grow participation – What works
Now that participants understand the data, key concepts, and framework; this session dives deeper into case studies – using real world examples of how diversity and inclusion can be used to grow physical activity participation.
Instructors
Kerry Wilson – A dynamic public sector leader and health promotion professional Kerry has spent 25 years creating healthy, active, equitable and inclusive environments. Sport is a life- long love that deserves to be nurtured to provide equal access and opportunities for all.
Jayde de Bondt-Pipan – Jayde is co-Chair of the Victorian Ministerial LGBTIQ Taskforce, and Engagement Lead at the Australian Institute of Sport. As an accomplished Community Development and Inclusion Specialist, Jayde has demonstrated experience in developing and delivering large-scale inclusion plans and initiatives, which improve community cohesion, connection and belonging.

Moderator
Mandy Nolton – Managing Director of Rec People, Mandy has the ability to provide a platform for engaging and developing the local government sector to partner with the wider sports community to deliver inclusive, equitable opportunities to participate in sport.
Time Commitment
1.5 hour Zoom meeting per week x 3 consecutive weeks
1.0 hour of homework per week in between online meetings
